What's On the South Beach Menu?

Whenever you are looking over a diet to determine if it is right for you, one of the first things that you will notice is what you can and cannot eat.  When it seems as though the things that you can eat are depressingly unvaried and the list of things you cannot eat include everything that you like, it is easy to see that your diet doesn't have a big chance of success, but this is not a problem that you have when it comes to the South Beach Diet.  When you start looking at what's on the South Beach Diet menu, you'll find that that the list for permitted and forbidden foods are quite interestingly varied, and that simply by looking down the list of what you can eat that you'll be able to put together some excellent meals.

Meat is something that many people feel that it is difficult to live without, and the South Beach diet has taken this into consideration.  Along with this diet's interest in cutting out bad carbohydrate and saturated fats, you'll find that turkey, Cornish game hen and chicken breasts are still on the approved menu, even during the most restrictive Phase one, as is boiled ham, tenderloin, and lean cuts of beef.  All types of seafood are permitted no matter what phase you are in, so think about integrating oily fishes like mackerel and cod into your diet to maximize your dose of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

During the South Beach Diet Phase 1, you will totally remove fruits and most types of grains, but you'll notice that after two weeks, when you come into Phase 2, you will be able to reintegrate them slowly.  You'll also find that you no longer crave them as much as you once did, and that as a result, the portions that you make will be significantly smaller.  You'll also find that dairy, in the form of fattier cheeses will make a comeback during Phase 2, but that once again, you will no longer crave them as much as you did.

When you are looking into what's on the South Beach Diet menu, you will notice that there are many different vegetables that you can add to your meals.  Asparagus, cauliflower, celery and collard greens are quite popular and can be eaten in large qualities, as can dill pickles and pickles that have been sweetened with Splenda.  You'll also notice that you can make some excellent salads simply by combining some of the meats and cheeses that you can eat in Phase 1 with romaine lettuce and spinach, which are quite delicious.
